Superstorm Sandy leaves behind Death and Demolition
Millions of people in the eastern United States awoke to flooded homes, fallen trees and widespread power outages caused by the giant storm Sandy, which swamped New York City's subway system and submerged streets in Manhattan's financial district. the number of confirmed deaths has risen to 30 in the U.S. while millions continue to struggle with flooding, fire and power outages as a result of Superstorm Sandy. More than 1 million people in a dozen states were under orders to evacuate as the massive system plowed westward. Subways and bridges were shut down as winds howled over a huge region encompassing hundreds of miles. Thousands of flights had to be cancelled, and hundreds of roads were flooded.
